A New Wire Net with Energy Absorbing Devices

  It is difficult to prevent highways from a falling huge rock. Such a huge rock must be fixed on the slope. When the movement begins once and then energy increase, it is difficult to stop the falling rock on the slope. A wire net fixes the falling rock before movement in this method. The impact force acts in the wire net at the sudden movement of the rock. The anchors may be often broken at the time. Energy is absorbed by increasing the buffer device between the wire and the anchor, thus the force acting on the anchors is controlled to a constant value or less.

 From the experiments of the new wire net, the following conclusions were obtained for 5.0tf in weight and 2.0,3.0,4.0 and 4.5m in the falling height.
 (1) The performance of the buffer device was confirmed.
 (2) The behavior of the wire net with the huge rocks made clear.
 (3) Basic data for the establishment of the design method to huge rocks were obtained.
